CREDIT HOUR GUIDE

At Florida Hebrew University, all classes are conducted online to provide flexibility and accessibility while maintaining rigorous academic standards. Our Torah-based education model ensures a structured, engaging learning environment that supports student success across undergraduate and graduate programs.

Undergraduate Online Classes

3-Credit Hour Courses:

  • Class Frequency and Duration:

    • Twice Weekly: Classes meet for 80 minutes per session, totaling 160 minutes per week.

    • Thrice Weekly: Classes meet for 50 minutes per session, totaling 150 minutes per week.

  • Alternative Scheduling: For certain courses, a once-weekly extended session lasting 2.5 to 3 hours may be offered.

  • Independent Study Expectation: Students should plan for 6-9 hours of study and assignments outside of class.

1-Credit Hour Courses:

  • Class Frequency and Duration: Classes typically meet once a week for 50 minutes.

  • Independent Study Expectation: An additional 2-3 hours of weekly preparation and study are expected.

Graduate Online Classes

3-Credit Hour Courses:

  • Class Frequency and Duration:

    • Twice Weekly: Classes meet for 80 minutes per session, totaling 160 minutes per week.

    • Once Weekly (Extended Format): Classes meet for 2.5 to 3 hours in a single session, designed to accommodate working professionals and advanced-level discussions.

  • Independent Study Expectation: Graduate students are expected to dedicate 8-12 hours per week to reading, research, and assignments outside of class.

1-Credit Hour Courses:

  • Class Frequency and Duration: Classes meet once per week for 50 minutes to 1 hour.

  • Independent Study Expectation: Students should allocate 2-3 hours per week for coursework and preparation.

Online Learning Format

Florida Hebrew University’s online programs offer both synchronous and asynchronous options, designed to accommodate diverse schedules and learning preferences.

  • Synchronous Online Classes:

    • Real-time classes conducted through video conferencing.

    • Students are expected to participate actively, adhere to the dress code (modest attire), and follow online etiquette policies.

    • Attendance and punctuality are required, with students logging in 5 minutes before the session starts.

  • Asynchronous Online Classes:

    • Structured weekly activities, including recorded lectures, assignments, and discussions.

    • Students engage in approximately 2.5-3 hours of learning activities per credit hour weekly at their own pace.
